Setting Up an MVS the Easy Way

BTW if you electrocute yourself, or any other hardware while trying to do this, it is your fault, not mine - so follow these steps at your own risk!!!

You will need:

Setting it all up:

First of all, the jamma connector is where most connections attach to, such as the monitor cable, and the power supply cable. If you do not have a jamma connection diagram you can use this. Anyway, the first bit involves attaching the Power Supply to the jamma connector. You need to connect 6 bits of wires (-5V, +12V, Ground (Com), Ground (Com), +5V, +5V). Just follow this chart.

Power Supply Connection Jamma Connection #

-5V

E

+12V

F

Ground (Com)

A

Ground (Com)

B

+5V

D, 4*

* Here, you have to attach to wires to the same connection on the power supply.

Do not forget to attach the AC/L AC/N to the A/C plug!

Attaching the Monitor

First of all buy either; an arcade monitor, RGB Monitor, or TV with an RGB Scart connection. Probably you would not want to buy an arcade monitor, because it comes bare, and so it is not very nice to live with it in your living room. So an RGB monitor or TV with an RGB Scart input has to do (they are easier to find in Europe are more in luck). Now, on the Jamma connector find the following pinouts. I assume you are going to use a Scart Euro/AV connection.

If you were successful, you should put all the bits in a nice wooden box or whatever :)

A Scart Euro/AV connection

Signal

Jamma Connection #

Scart Pin #

Video Analog Green N 11
Video Analog Red 12 15
Video Analog Blue 13 7
Video Composite Sync P 20
Video Ground 14 18

If, like me, you are an impatient guy you may want to try out what you have done to this point. Just plug the Jamma into the MVS (with a game inserted in), insert the Scart into your TV and switch everything on (put your TV on channel AV, and if the display is nor 100% perfect (it may display through composite) just hit the TXT button on the remote to force it to RGB). If you did all fine, you should get a crystal clear picture!

Connecting Sound

This is the easiest bit - find the sound connections on the MVS (it has 4 connections on it, the middle two are the grounds, and the two on the edge are the left and right signals). Get an appropriate cable, with two phono plugs on one end which go straight into the amplifier/speakers or hi-fi, on the other end you should have the bare wires. Connect the grounds to the grounds on the MVS board and the other two wires to the sound connections. Plug the phonos and that's all. For the joysticks just plug them in the ports on the MVS board.
